Charter Walk was one of the first shopping centres in the area to be awarded Park Mark status, a nationwide safer parking award. In a recent inspection visit the shopping centre carpark retained the award for continuing meeting best practice.
The initiative, sponsored by the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Home Office and the British Parking Association, was developed to reward schemes that reduce crime and the fear of crime in parking facilities.
Park Mark, is only awarded to parking facilities that have put in place measures that help deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour, thereby doing everything they can to prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime in their parking area.
For customers, the Park Mark Award means that the area has been vetted by the Police and has measures in place in order to create a safe environment.
The award is an improvement on the existing Secured Car Parks Scheme (SCPS) that had been running for in previous years. Peter Ashworth, Operations Manager at Charter Walk says, "It is fantastic that Charter Walk continues to win this award. Our car park has always been one of the safest in town, so we are naturally very proud that we are one of the first in the area to be recognised for this award."
