Working hard for shops and shoppers, the Burnley Business Initiative Against Crime (BBIAC) continues it's drive reduce town centre crime and anti social behavior. Holder of the prestigious Safer Business Award* since 2006, BBIAC is a proactive partnership with representatives from Lancashire Constabulary, Charter Walk Shopping Centre, Burnley Borough Council, Burnley Town Centre Partnership, The Community Safety Partnership but most importantly over 120 town centre business members.
Key to its success has been coordinated action against shoplifters and individuals involved in serious disorder and anti social behavior through the BEAT IT and BAND schemes. Improved visitor safety is also supported through participation in the Child Safe Scheme and the Park Mark Award held by Charter Walk Shopping Centre for safe and secure car parks
BBIAC has helped to establish an effective information-sharing agreement with the police, to provide members with up to date details of known offenders. Combined with the town centre radio scheme, comprehensive digital CCTV coverage and a dedicated team of town centre police and security offices, shops and businesses are able to take decisive action to help prevent crime and antisocial behavior.
