What is Burnley Town Centre Management

It is a business-led initiative with partners voluntarily coming together to improve and promote the town centre, supported by Burnley Borough Council, but operating independently.

By seeking member’s ideas, the Management ensures that activities are directly beneficial to the partners and will not replace any Council-provided activity.

The Draft Business Plan sets out activities to be progressed, with costs and timescales. Success requires the input and commitment of the membership, in ideas, in actions, in cash and in kind. The Management may bid for further funding from other agencies.

The Management is not about lobbying, it is action-orientated. There is a well established voice for business in the town – Burnley Chamber of Trade and Commerce, which is a founder member of the Management. Partners are encouraged to contact and perhaps join that organisation.

Why does Burnley Town Centre need a Management?

1. Successful Managements already operate in many other towns and cities.

2. The Town Centre had seen physical improvements in recent years but there is much more that can be done to promote and improve it. 

3. The Town Centre Master Plan to improve the physical environment needs to be supported by a programme of promotional and management activity

4. Burnley Town Centre operates in a fiercely competitive commercial environment and must respond accordingly.  

5. Burnley must adapt and improve if it is to maintain and develop its position in the shopping centre hierarchy.
